Three Crowns announces today: the promotion of Agustin G. Sanz to partner in its Madrid office, and Simon Consedine to partner in its Washington, DC office. These promotions are a testament to the firm’s deep bench of talent, its investment in its people, and its continued growth across markets including in the US, Latin America, and Spain.

Agustin G. Sanz, who joined the firm in 2015 and was promoted to Counsel in 2018, has extensive experience of both international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations involving disputes in a broad range of sectors, including for clients such as the Republic of Chile, Naturgy, Sacyr, and BP. He also advises and represents international organizations and sovereigns on matters of public international law and sits as arbitrator. His appointment bolsters the firm’s Spanish and Latin American offering, and follows the opening of its Madrid office in September 2023, where Agustin and partner Carmen Martinez Lopez relocated from Washington, DC and London respectively. Agustin is qualified in Buenos Aires and in Washington DC (Special Legal Consultant).

Reacting to his appointment, Agustin said: “I am thrilled to take this step at Three Crowns, a firm I had the privileged to see grow from an idea into a reality. The calibre of the partnership I am joining guarantees that I will keep on learning from the very best in international arbitration, while we continue to serve our clients with bespoke, creative and effective advocacy.”

Ana Sala Andrés, Board Secretary, Sacyr, said: “Agustin’s promotion to partner is a natural step. We have worked with him regularly over the past few years, both in complex technical aspects of the case and issues of public contracts and municipal law and regulations, and he has proved to be solid and capable of distilling the best available legal arguments for the case.”

Simon Consedine, who joined the firm as a senior associate in 2018 and was promoted to Counsel in 2020, has acted for a number of clients, including US companies such as Elliott Management, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and ContourGlobal. He has extensive experience of both commercial and investment treaty arbitrations in the US and in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Simon is admitted in New Zealand, New York and the District of Columbia.

Commenting on his appointment, Simon said: “It is a true privilege to join the Three Crowns partnership. I look forward to continuing to work alongside the very best international arbitration practitioners on important mandates for our clients and to developing the next generation of arbitration luminaries.”

Rich Zabel, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer of Elliott Investment Management, notes that “Simon is an extremely strong lawyer who not only knows his client’s case inside out but also is a calm and effective strategist in the courtroom.”

Georgios Petrochilos KC, the executive partner of the firm, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Agustin and Simon into the Three Crowns partnership. Agustin’s reputation in Latin America has long been known and recognised by colleagues and clients alike, and his promotion reflects our aspirations and ambitions for growth from our recently opened Madrid office.  Simon’s promotion is a testament to the continued growth of our US practice. He is admired and sought out by many of our clients and has a reputation as a formidable advocate and loyal opponent. Both promotions showcase the values of the firm, and we look forward to seeing their careers grow in their new positions.”

Across its five offices, Three Crowns has eighteen partners. Since the launch of the Madrid office in September 2023, it has two partners and five associates.
