Comparative Perspectives on Investment Arbitration from Latin America and Europe
Hosted through the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and presented in Spanish, the event will take place on Wednesday, 22 July, from 1:00 – 2:15 pm UK time. Click HERE to register.
The panellists will share their insights and experiences around these two regions, which have shaped recent developments in this field.
The past couple of years in Europe have effectively seen the end to intra-EU investor-State arbitration, as EU member states terminated all intra-EU bilateral investment treaties (BITs) in May 2020. Meanwhile, in Latin America, countries such as Ecuador, Venezuela, and Bolivia have withdrawn from the ICSID Convention and terminated some of their BITs. Additionally, new-generation trade and investment agreements in the region have included new dispute resolution mechanisms.
