Nicola Peart to speak at the PILnet 2021 Global Forum

Nicola Peart will be moderating a panel on “Business and Human Rights: How to Protect the Public Interest in Arbitration” at the PILnet 2021 Global Forum. PILnet is a global NGO that works with civil society organisations to identify their legal needs and connect them with pro bono lawyers in PILnet’s global legal network who have the relevant skills and expertise to help.

The session will look at the public interest implications which may arise in international arbitration and will examine the protection of public interest. The interactive event will highlight recent trends in arbitration, including a discussion on the Hague Rules on Business and Human Rights Arbitration.

The discussion will take place on Tuesday 19 October from 5:00 to 6:15pm BST (12:00 – 1:15pm ET).

ABOUT NICOLA PEART

Nicola, a senior associate in the Washington, DC office, practises in all aspects of international dispute resolution. Her experience includes international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, as well arbitration under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and proceedings before the International Court of Justice. She also advises and represents parties in arbitration-related court matters, including before the UK Supreme Court.

Nicola is a member of the International Bar Association’s under-40 arbitration sub-committee, ArbitralWomen, and the ICCA Task Force on Gender Diversity in International Arbitral Appointments and Proceedings. She also acts as Legal Secretary to the International Tennis Federation’s Ethics Commission. She has an active pro bono practice.  For the past ten years she has acted as a legal adviser on international climate change law for a charity called Legal Response International, which provides support to developing countries attending the UN climate change negotiations. She is currently advising an indigenous group on their access to human rights protection under international law, as well as on issues relating to decolonisation and self-determination.
