Hamid Abdulkareem will be speaking on the “Cyber Security Issues in Arbitration: Best Practices” panel at the Annual Conference of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria Branch.
The panellists will identify the cyber security risks that are inherent in the use of technology in arbitration proceedings and discuss the guidelines, protocols, and rules that have been established by arbitral institutions and professional bodies, such as the IBA, ICC, HKIAC, and LCIA. The discussants will also explore where liability should lie for cyber breaches and whether arbitrator immunity applies.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Future Perfect: Securing Africa’s Ascent on the Global ADR Stage” and will comprise robust discussions aimed at enhancing the understanding of the growth and advancement of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in Africa, and in particular, Nigeria.
The event, which will take place both in person and virtually on Thursday 4 – Friday 5 November, will be hosted at the Jogor Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The Cyber Security panel will be at 2:00 – 3:00pm WAT (1:00 – 2:00pm GMT) on the first day of the conference.
