Farouk El-Hosseny will speak on the panel “Navigating the ECT Twilight Zone: Modernised Treaty, Exiting States and Overlapping Obligations”, at the upcoming event on Hot Topics in Investment Treaty Arbitration hosted by Young MCIA, Debevoise & Plimpton, and supported by IBA Arb40 Subcommittee.
In this session, panellists will explore the complexities and evolving landscape surrounding the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) in light of recent reform efforts and the wave of state withdrawals.
Farouk will speak alongside Greg Lourie (Schellenberg Wittmer) and Monika Hlavkova (Debevoise & Plimpton), with Arun Mal (A&O Shearman) moderating the session. The panel discussion will take place on Tuesday 1 July, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, with drinks and canapés to follow.

Farouk, a senior associate in our London office, advises clients on arbitrations governed by the ICC, ICSID, LCIA, and UNCITRAL rules, with a focus on complex commercial and investor-State disputes in the oil and gas and telecommunications sectors.
