Carmen Martinez Lopez will be speaking at the event, “The Relevance and Reliability of the Memory of Witnesses: Discussion on the Purpose of the Recent ICC Report on the Matter”, hosted by Latin American International Arbitration (LIA).
In the first part of the session, the panellists will discuss the current use of witness statements and the context and explanation of the ICC Report, the 127th Update – Practice Direction Amendments. Carmen will explore opinions on the Report and its recommendations. The panel will also include an expert psychologist, who will explain how memory works, how it can be distorted, and how false memories are created.
In the second part, Carmen will address the standard practice for witnesses and the weight that arbitrators usually give to witness testimony. Other topics will include the consistency of witness statements and changes that could be made to the way in which these statements are made.
The session, which will take place in Spanish, will be on Thursday 28 October from 9:00 – 11:00am PET (3:00 – 5:00pm BST).
