Reza Mohtashami KC will speak at a panel on “Dispute Resolution Through the Lens of Those Affected: The London Centenary Principles revisited by The Hawar Circle”, taking place in Madrid ahead of the ICCA 2026 Congress and organised by Ciarb European Branch, Ciarb Iberian Chapter and the Global Justice Bay of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Hawar Circle – a group of leading stakeholders in arbitration – revisted CIArb’s Centenary Principles on what makes a safe seat, resulting in the Hawar principles which are now open for consultation. In this session, the original drafters of the Centenary Principles and the drafters of the Hawar principles gather to discuss the evolution of the safe seat, the newly drafted Hawar principles, and future pathways to safeguard arbitration in modern times.
Reza will speak alongside Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson (Secretary General, International Dispute Resolution Council, Kingdom of Bahrain), Anna Joubin-Bret (Secretary, UNCITRAL), Kevin Nash (Director General, LCIA), and Mohamed Abdel Wahab (Partner, Zulficar & Partners, Court Counsel Member, Bahrain International Commercial Court, and immediate past President, CIArb).
Welcome remarks will be delivered by Dr. Alfonso Martínez-Echevarría y García de Dueñas (Dean of Law School, Universidad San Pablo CEU), with closing remarks by Cesar Pereira C.Arb FCIArb, CIArb President.
The event will be held on Sunday 12 April, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Universidad San Pablo CEU in Madrid. The panel will be followed by a Q&A session and a networking reception.

ABOUT REZA MOHTASHAMI KC
Reza is a partner in the London office. In his more than 25 years of practice, he has represented clients as counsel and advocate in arbitrations conducted under a variety of arbitral rules in many different jurisdictions. He also appears as an advocate before domestic and international courts in arbitration-related matters. Reza has previously practiced in Paris, New York and Dubai, where he established the Middle East dispute resolution practice of a leading international law firm. He has particular expertise in disputes arising in emerging markets, including in investor-state arbitrations.
