Ben is a senior associate in the London office of Three Crowns, with experience in a number of significant investment-treaty and commercial arbitrations conducted under institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules, involving disputes across a range of industry sectors.  Prior to joining Three Crowns, Ben practised for several years in a specialist arbitration and litigation firm in Auckland, where he appeared as counsel in a number of proceedings.  

Ben’s recent investment treaty experience includes successfully representing and obtaining a multi-million dollar award for Mytilineos Holdings in its arbitration against the Republic of Serbia, representing Cypriot investors in an arbitration against the Czech Republic arising from regulatory reforms in the gaming sector, and representing an investor in an arbitration against the Kingdom of Spain arising from the termination of gold mining concessions.  Ben’s commercial experience includes representing an individual in a multibillion dispute relating to the division of a portfolio of assets, a leading private equity firm in a post-investment dispute, and a European energy company in a joint-venture dispute. 

Ben is admitted in New Zealand, and holds degrees from the University of Auckland and Stanford Law School (as a Fulbright Scholar). He is recognised in the Legal 500 UK for international arbitration.
