Three Crowns is pleased to announce that Simon Consedine has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as a senior associate.

Simon joins Three Crowns following seven years in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s international arbitration team in its Paris and Washington, DC offices.  Simon has significant experience in international commercial arbitration, having represented clients across a wide range of sectors.  His experience includes representing a Chilean oil and gas explorer in defence of claims of gross negligence in oilfield activities and related joint venture agreements disputes, a British construction company on claims and counterclaims arising out of the construction of a power plant in Israel, and the Middle Eastern branch of an American food company in a food distribution dispute. Simon also has considerable experience in investment arbitrations, including most recently representing Canadian rare earths minerals explorer Stans Energy Corp in its expropriation claim against the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.  He co-authored, with Lucy Reed, the chapter “Fair and Equitable Treatment: Legitimate Expectations and Transparency” in ICSID’s 50th anniversary text “Building International Investment Law: The First 50 Years of ICSID.”

Simon received his LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where he studied as a Fulbright scholar.  Before that, he received an LL.B with first-class honors and a BA with first-class honors from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.  He speaks English and French, and is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New York, and New Zealand.
